Zisterzienserinnenkloster Wöltingerode

The foundation of Wöltingerode Abbey dates back to the 12th century when it was established as a Cistercian convent. For several centuries, the nuns shaped the spiritual and economic life of the region. The history of the monastery is characterized by various phases of prosperity and change until it lost its original function as a religious community during the Reformation and subsequent secularization. The preserved buildings reflect the architectural development over the centuries.

Wöltingerode Abbey is nestled in the landscape of Lower Saxony, not far from the city of Goslar. This geographical position in the northern Harz foreland once offered ideal conditions for monastic self-sufficiency and is now an attractive location for visitors.

After its dissolution, the monastery grounds were used in various ways. Today, it houses, among other things, a distillery and a hotel, giving the historic walls a new purpose and keeping them vibrant. Visitors can explore the complex and experience the connection between history and modern use.
