Zisterzienserinnenkloster Krummin

The foundation of Krummin Convent took place in 1302/1303 as a branch of the Cistercian convent of Wollin. In 1302, Duke Bogislaw IV of Pomerania granted his daughter Jutta and the nuns of Wollin Convent the land of Bukow, with the condition that a new Cistercian convent be established on the western side of Usedom. Before May 1303, a division of property between the two convents occurred. Following further disputes in 1305, Krummin definitively separated from its mother convent. Duchess Jutta, who had previously lived in Wollin, entered the new Krummin Convent and became its abbess in 1323. The village church of Krummin, originally built between 1260 and 1270, was expanded to serve as the convent church. The convent primarily served to provide for unmarried daughters of the Pomeranian nobility. After 1563, Krummin Convent was dissolved as part of the secularization process.

The former convent is situated in Krummin, a village in the northern part of Usedom Island, which belongs to the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The former convent church is now the Protestant village church of Krummin. Other parts of the convent complex are no longer preserved or have been repurposed.
