Zisterzienserinnenabtei Schweinheim

The foundation of Schweinheim Abbey occurred before 1238, with a Count of Tomburg acting as its founder. Originally known as "Porta Coeli" (Gate of Heaven), it was intended for the daughters of wealthy landed gentry and was under the spiritual guidance of Heisterbach Abbey. Following destruction at the beginning of the 18th century, the monastery was rebuilt between 1726 and 1728. However, its existence as a monastery ended in 1802 with the secularization through the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss. The church was demolished after the dissolution, and the remaining buildings partly fell into disrepair.

Schweinheim Abbey is located in Schweinheim, a district of Euskirchen, in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Of the former monastic complex, some structures remain today and are utilized as a seminar house. Numerous artifacts from the monastery were transferred to the church of St. Laurentius in Niederkastenholz after its dissolution.
