Zisterzienserinnenabtei Lichtenstern

In 1242, the Cistercian convent Stella Praeclara, also known as Lichtenstern, was founded by Luitgard von Weinsberg. The initial settlement consisted of nuns from Himmelthal Abbey, and Burgsindis von Limburg was appointed as the first abbess. By the end of the 13th century, a comprehensive monastic complex with a church, cloister, convent, and residential buildings, enclosed by a protective wall, had been established. The Lords of Weinsberg, and later the Electorate of the Palatinate and the Duchy of Württemberg, served as patrons. The convent acquired extensive property through donations and surpluses. During the Peasants' War in 1525, the complex was plundered but narrowly escaped destruction. Following the introduction of the Reformation in Württemberg, the convent was finally dissolved in 1554 by Duke Christoph von Württemberg. Subsequently, until 1806, it served as a Württemberg monastic administrative office for managing the former convent's assets. During the Thirty Years' War, there was a brief re-establishment as a monastery before its final secularization in 1648.

The complex is located in Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 347 meters above sea level.

Since 1865, the Evangelische Stiftung Lichtenstern (Protestant Foundation Lichtenstern) has been housed in the historic buildings, ensuring continued use and maintenance of the complex.
