Würtzburg Palais
The Würtzburg-Palais is located in the vicinity of the Congress Centrum. The building borders the Schneidturm to the north, the address is Turmgasse 11. It is also sometimes referred to as the Baroque House at the Schneidturm. The west facade faces the Main river.
The palace was built in 1719. From 1842-53, it housed the headquarters of the Main Steamship Company. In 1945, the building burned down. The facade and the portal remained intact. Subsequently, for several decades, only a ruin or a partial reconstruction of the building stood.
Architecture+
The city palace is a two-story building with a mansard hip roof, plastered masonry, and lugged window frames. The entrance is a baroque sandstone portal. The historic portal shows the coat of arms of the Franconian noble family Würtzburg in the pediment.
Current Use+
Today, after reconstruction and renovation, it houses the premises of the municipal enterprise Congress-Tourism-Economy, as the successor to the municipal tourist office and the Franconian Wine Country Tourism GmbH. Both companies benefit from the close proximity to the Congress Centrum Würzburg.
