Wilhelmsburg Castle: A Historical Overview+
Construction and Early Use+
Wilhelmsburg Castle was built in 1495 by Duke Wilhelm the Younger of Braunschweig. From 1756–1841, the house served as a brewery.
Damage and Reconstruction+
In 1784, the castle was damaged by a fire and rebuilt in 1785.
Renovations and Modern Use+
A comprehensive renovation took place in 1896. Since 1972, the castle has served as the seat for parts of the city administration.
