The monastery of Orlamünde was founded in 1331. It was inhabited by the Wilhelmine Order and was dedicated to Saint James. Over the centuries, the monastery shaped the spiritual and cultural life of its surroundings until it was dissolved and secularized in 1521 during the Reformation.
