Parz Water Castle

Parz moated castle is located in the Upper Austrian town of Grieskirchen. Immediately south of the moated castle is Parz country castle, the center of the Upper Austrian Provincial Exhibition 2010.

The predecessor building was a moated castle, the period of its origin is unknown. It was first mentioned in a document in 1220 with Wernhart dem Lehrbühler. In 1514, the dominion of Parz and thus also the moated castle came into the possession of Sigmund Ludwig von Pollheim. Around 1800, the building was largely rebuilt, and only remnants of the former moated castle remain. Due to its dilapidated condition, it stood empty between 1946 and 1963. Then it was rented by the artist group around Hans Hoffmann-Ybbs, who developed it into an artist center, which was operated until 1998.

The moated castle is or was owned by Georg Spiegelfeld-Schneeburg, who rented it to the operators of the restaurant Castelvecchio and to the gallery owners Jacinta M. Mössenböck and Laurenz Pöttinger. In spring 2010, he offered the complex for sale for 3.2 million Euros.
