Hueb Castle

Hueb Water Castle is located in the eponymous district of the municipality of Eggendorf im Traunkreis in the Linz-Land district.

Schloss Hueb is first mentioned in 1356 as a Volkensdorffer fief. This fief was granted to the Steyr city judge Eberhard Mühlwanger. Later, the brothers Siegmund and Heinrich Prueschenk are named as feudal lords. In 1525, Hueb came into the possession of the Sproll family. In 1557, the Steyr citizen Daniel Luger is named as the owner. Under Urban Johann Steurer's son, who owned Hueb around 1588, a peasant uprising occurred due to high taxes, during which the neighboring estates of Eggendorf and Leompach were also attacked.

Further owners mentioned include: Klaudius Philipp Pröller von Ladendorf (1608), Johann Friedrich Mörk von Gneisenau (1650), Schlierbach Abbey, Ehrenreich von Schallenberg, who united Hueb with Eggendorf. Under Wolf Spiller von Mitterberg (1696–1709), the castle was rebuilt around 1700 after severe fire damage.

In 1956, the castle was bought by the Wiesmayer family, who previously ran the tavern in Weitersdorf, and a guesthouse was also opened here. In 1961, it came into the possession of the Wimmer family. Today, the castle is privately owned by Erwin Machgraber, an antique dealer from Marchtrenk, who is striving for a historically accurate renovation.
