The castle was first mentioned in the 14th century as property of the Lords of Torck family. At the beginning of the 18th century, the castle changed owners. The new owners were now the Counts Droste zu Vischering.
Since 1974, the castle has been owned by the family of the Imperial Counts von Schall-Riaucour.
