History+
The Ursuline Convent of the Annunciation was founded in 1712, initiated by the Ursuline Convent in Kitzingen. As early as 1725, the Antoniterkirche was integrated into the convent. Despite its dedicated work in education, the convent was dissolved in 1804 during secularization, with all its possessions auctioned off. However, only a few years later, in 1808, it was re-established as a foundation by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, at the instigation of Würzburg's auxiliary bishop Gregor Zirkel and the citizenry. The admission of novices was only permitted from 1826, and in 1827, the first three candidates entered, after having proven their suitability for the teaching profession before a state commission.
