Komturei Lietzen

The Lietzen Commandery was founded in 1229 and first documented in 1244. It initially served the Templar Order. Following its dissolution in 1312, the property passed to the Order of St. John in 1318. In 1548, the commandery was secularized. In the early 19th century, specifically 1812, it became property of the Kingdom of Prussia and was gifted in 1814 to State Chancellor Prince Karl August von Hardenberg. Until its expropriation in 1945 by the Soviet occupation zone, due to Carl-Hans Graf von Hardenberg's involvement in the July 20, 1944 assassination attempt, the commandery was managed as a manor. After German reunification, the property was returned to the von Hardenberg family in 1993, who have managed it ever since.

The Lietzen Commandery is located in the municipality of Lietzen in the Märkisch-Oderland district, Brandenburg, Germany. The complex is situated on an elevated site, complemented to the southeast by a presumably artificially dammed fish pond. Parts of the surrounding walls, made of fieldstone ashlar, date back to the late 13th century.

The building complex of the former Lietzen Commandery is currently used by the von Hardenberg family. The commandery church is open to the public and is part of the 'Offene Kirchen' initiative. The entire enclosed area is also publicly accessible.
