Stiftskirche, Kyllburg

The origins of a church in Kyllburg date back to the 9th century, possibly in connection with a donation of lands to Prüm Abbey. In 1276, Archbishop Heinrich II von Finstingen of Trier had the current church built in honor of the Virgin Mary. Simultaneously, he founded a collegiate chapter. Construction of the choir began under the direction of the Cistercian monk Heinrich, followed by the completion of the nave in the first half of the 14th century. Subsequently, the cloister was built. Initially staffed by four canons, Archbishop Diether von Nassau increased their number to twelve from 1304 and incorporated several parishes into the chapter. Further parishes were added in 1349 under Balduin of Luxembourg. In 1597, Archbishop Johann VII von Schönenberg limited the number of canons to ten. After the French conquest of the left bank of the Rhine, the chapter was secularized in 1802, and the former collegiate church assumed the function of Kyllburg's parish church.

The collegiate church is situated in Kyllburg, a town in the Bitburg-Prüm district, in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The former collegiate church now functions as a Roman Catholic parish church. Parts of the Gothic architecture, including the 14th-century cloister and Renaissance windows in the choir, have been preserved.
