Staigue Fort, an impressive fortress, is located on the Iveragh Peninsula in Ireland. It is one of the best-preserved ringforts in the country, captivating visitors with its massive stone construction and mysterious atmosphere.

History+

The exact period of Staigue Fort's construction is not fully known, but experts believe this stone fort was built several centuries BC. Such ringforts likely served as defensive structures, but also provided safe shelter for people and animals, or held cultic significance. The complex features a circular wall up to 5.5 meters high and 4 meters thick, enclosing a diameter of approximately 27 meters. Inside the wall, there are two waterproof chambers with stone slab ceilings, and several stairs lead to the top of the wall.

Staigue Fort is situated in County Kerry (Ciarraí) in the Munster (An Mhumhain) region of Ireland, near the village of Staigue. It stands at an elevation of approximately 126 meters above sea level.
