Sommerach City Wall

The historic town hall of Volkach, a magnificent half-timbered building, is one of the most beautiful in Franconia. It was built between 1540 and 1544 by the master builder Nikolaus Hofmann from Heilbronn. The town hall served not only as the seat of the town administration but also as a market hall and a court. The building is characterized by its richly decorated facade with numerous carvings and figures. Particularly striking is the bay window on the first floor, which is adorned with the coats of arms of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg and the town of Volkach.

The town hall is a two-story half-timbered building with a steep hipped roof. The ground floor is made of stone, while the upper floor is constructed of half-timbering. The facade is richly decorated with carvings, including grotesque masks, mythical creatures, and biblical scenes. The bay window on the first floor is supported by two stone consoles and is adorned with the coats of arms of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg and the town of Volkach. The roof is covered with red tiles and features several dormers.
