City Wall Neubrandenburg-New Gate

The New Gate is one of the four city gates of Neubrandenburg's old town. Built in the style of North German Brick Gothic, it is located on the east side of the medieval fortifications.

The name New Gate refers to the fact that this gate was only added to the three-gate city fortification in the second half of the 15th century. Originally, the gate complex consisted of the main gate, outer gate, and barbican. However, the outer gate was demolished in 1852 due to dilapidation, and the barbican fell victim to Tilly's siege in 1631, the year of its completion. On the city side of the main gate, there are eight adorants or angels, extending their hands in blessing towards the city. Nothing is known about their exact meaning.
