Mittenwalde Town Fortification
The Castrum Middenwalde was a border fortress between Teltow and Lausitz around 1240. Heavily contested between the Wettins and Ascanians.
Mittenwalde was systematically developed into a city in the 13th century. Due to its strategic location, the city was fortified with a city wall and two gates (Berliner Tor and Mühlentor).
The Pulverturm (Powder Tower) was located with the inner gate (no longer existing) on a 7.3 meter high wall. In front of the Pulverturm was the Zwinger (outer bailey) with the Berliner Tor as the outer gate.
The Pulverturm is 25 meters high, with a diameter of 8.45 meters. The Berliner Tor is only preserved with the outer gate of the gate complex.
