Town Fortification Hartberg

The remains of the city wall date from the 12th to 13th centuries. Today it runs from the Reckturm, which was built in the second half of the 13th century, over the terraced city park to Hartberg Castle to the north, along the ring further east to Franz-Schmidt-Gasse. In the east, the Schölbingerturm has been preserved, from which a short remnant of the city wall extends. Below the city parish church and charnel house, the steep step was part of the church fortress and included in the narrower belt of the original city wall. In the 19th century, two city gates were demolished.
