St. Valentin

The origins of the church's side aisles date back to 1380, while the main structure was largely built in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. A special feature is the comprehensive Gothic interior, including the lay stalls by Erhart Falckener from 1510 with the spiral of justice, the Kiedrich Madonna (around 1350), and various Gothic altars. The high altar from 1619 serves as the tomb altar for Caspar zu Elz-Langenau. Unique is the rood screen between the nave and the choir, which, after its removal in the 17th century, was reconstructed in the 19th century at the initiative of John Sutton. The church's construction was financed by donations from pilgrims who came to venerate the relics of Saint Valentin. These relics, bone fragments from the skull and spine, arrived in Kiedrich around 1350 from the nearby Eberbach Abbey and are still visited by pilgrims today. Saint Valentin is considered the patron saint of epileptics and lovers. Since 2016, St. Valentin has been a filial church within the parish of St. Peter and Paul Rheingau. Extensive renovation of the interior and exterior was carried out from 2012 to 2018.

Today, the church is a filial church of the parish of St. Peter and Paul Rheingau. In the churchyard stands the late Gothic St. Michael's Chapel with an ossuary. One of the oldest playable organs in the world, and the oldest in Hesse, is located in the church. The liturgical Latin choral singing is maintained by the Kiedricher Chorbuben, a tradition documented since 1333.
