In 1989, a small community of Orthodox monks acquired a former guesthouse in Geilnau and converted it into a skete, transforming the former assembly hall into a chapel. In the mid-1990s, the community was officially elevated to a skete by the Serbian Orthodox Bishop for Central Europe, Konstantin. Although dependent on its mother monastery, the Serbian Orthodox Monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos in Hildesheim-Himmelsthür, the Skete of Saint Spyridon operates with complete administrative independence. Due to limited space in Geilnau, a new branch was later established in Unterufhausen, East Hesse, where a church built in the Serbian style now houses the Annunciation-St. Justin Hermitage.

The monastery is situated in Geilnau, a district of Balduinstein, within the Rhein-Lahn district of Rhineland-Palatinate. Its geographical location is characterized by its proximity to the Diez municipal association.

The monastic community, led by Abbot S´chi Archimandrite Vasilije (Basilius), dedicates itself to a contemplative life, defined by daily prayers and liturgy. The monks are open to visitors and request prior registration. Additionally, they offer adult men, including non-Orthodox Christians, the opportunity to live in the monastery for a period to experience monastic life. Services are primarily conducted in German, but also in Serbian, Church Slavonic, Greek, English, and French.
