The monastery was founded in 1490 by Knight Heinrich von Starschedel, who initiated the establishment of this monastic settlement after a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. An inscription stone in Mutzschen's town church attests to this founding date. The Servite Order, also known as Servants of Mary, was a mendicant order that established itself in Mutzschen. In 1522, the monastery received income from the parishes of Wermsdorf and Fremdiswalde. Originally, the complex was designed to accommodate a community of up to 26 Servite monks. The monastery's existence ended around 1530 when the monks converted to the Protestant faith and the community dissolved. The exact circumstances of the dissolution and the fate of the monastic properties are not fully documented.
Servitenkloster Mutzschen

The former Servite Monastery in Mutzschen, a district of Grimma in the Leipzig district, was a short-lived establishment of the Servite Order. It was founded in the late 15th century and existed for only a few decades before it was dissolved during the Reformation. Today, only a few traces of the original complex remain, offering an insight into the religious landscape of Saxony at that time.

Location+
Mutzschen is located in the Leipzig district of Saxony, approximately 14 kilometers east of Grimma and 17 kilometers west of Oschatz. Since 2012, Mutzschen has been a district of the city of Grimma. The former convent buildings of the monastery were situated north of the local church. It is believed that today's Kantorhaus (cantor's house) may stand on the foundations of an earlier monastic building, even though the current structure dates from the Baroque period.

The original monastery church was destroyed by fire in 1683 and subsequently rebuilt. No direct remains of the actual monastery buildings are visible today. The history of the complex is primarily evidenced by written sources and archaeological conjectures.
