Seckendorff Castle

In 1707, the widow Maria Sophia Rieter von Kornburg, née Fürer von Haimendorf, acquired the property of the margravial subject Georg Huter, which was then in a dilapidated state. The old residential house was demolished to make way for the construction of a new manor house, which the buyer intended to occupy as her widow's residence. Since the building application was only submitted in the autumn of 1707, the new building was likely constructed in 1708/09.

In 1720, the Barons von Seckendorff acquired the property through marriage. For several years, the Prussian Privy Councillor Ludwig Karl Kopp then inhabited the manor house, probably as a tenant of the Seckendorffs. In 1774, a marriage brought the property to Georg Albrecht Freiherr von Egloffstein. Around 1800, the Baron had to sell the manor house to private individuals for financial reasons. Before 1830, the Barons von Egloffstein reacquired the property, but sold it again to bourgeois interested parties after a short time. In 1851, the Meßthaler family established an inn in the manor house. The family maintains the property with great effort to this day.

The two-story building has been covered by a hip roof since its construction. Corner pilasters and lugged frames of the window openings structure the symmetrical facades. Noteworthy is the profiled main portal, accessible via an outdoor staircase, above which a cartouche with an alliance coat of arms of the Egloffstein and Seckendorff families is affixed. Inside, several stucco ceilings have been preserved, among which the ceiling of the hall is particularly richly designed. The authorship of the well-known stucco artist Donato Polli, who died in 1738, is assumed but cannot be proven. On the property, there is also a baroque half-timbered garden house.
