Oberdorf Castle

The castle was built between 1596 and 1604 by Franz von Teuffenbach. It had four wings and an arcaded courtyard. Later owners included the Freydenpichl and Strohmayr families.

In 1779, the castle was acquired by the Counts of Wurmbrand-Stuppach. They initiated extensive renovations and modernizations. The castle received a new facade in the Baroque style and the interior was redesigned.

During the 19th century, the castle remained in the possession of the Wurmbrand-Stuppach family. Further alterations were made, including the addition of an English landscape garden. The castle became a cultural and social center of the region.

The castle is a four-winged complex with an inner courtyard. The main facade is characterized by a central projection and two corner towers. The Baroque elements are particularly evident in the window frames and the portal.

The interior of the castle boasts numerous historically significant rooms. The grand hall, with its elaborate stucco work and ceiling paintings, is particularly impressive. Other notable rooms include the knight's hall, the chapel, and various salons.

Today, the castle serves as a museum and event venue. It regularly hosts exhibitions, concerts, and other cultural events. Parts of the castle can also be rented for private celebrations and conferences.

The museum provides insights into the history of the castle and its former inhabitants. Visitors can explore the historic rooms and admire a collection of furniture, paintings, and other artifacts from different eras.
