Zwingenberg Castle
As a replacement for the ruinous moated castle of Katzenelnbogen, Landgrave Philipp had a hunting lodge built in front of the Obertor in 1561-63, which may initially have been a Burgmannen residence, then later used as a district court. After its destruction in 1693 and reconstruction at the beginning of the 18th century, it still marks the southern entrance to the historic old town today.
