Zschorna Castle

The Zschorna estate was purchased in 1488 by Hugolt von Schleinitz. After demolishing the old walls, he built an outwork here. The Renaissance castle was built in 1537 under Christoph von Petzschwitz on the walls of the old moated castle. In 1603, Siegfried von Lüttichau is mentioned as the owner. From 1670 to 1725, the castle was owned by the Counts of Beichlingen. Wolf Dietrich Count von Beichlingen was Grand Chancellor to August the Strong until 1703. From 1725 to 1764, the manor was owned by the von Sahla family. From 1764 to 1841, it belonged to a von Erdmannsdorf family. Further owners of Zschorna Castle included a Baron von Sprenger in 1848 and Friedrich August von Boxberg in 1852. Around 1900, a Mrs. Wanda von Boxberg owned the castle. In 1936, the Boxbergs had to hand over the property to Prince von Stollberg. The NSDAP turned the property into an institution of the SA and the RAD (Reich Labor Service). In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Thereafter, the castle served as a company holiday home. Since 2005, a non-profit association has been working on the renovation of the complex.
