Zernikow Castle

Zernikow was first mentioned in a document in 1362. In the mid-17th century, the knightly family von Zernikow was over-indebted. After various other owners, Crown Prince Frederick acquired the Zernikow estate in 1737 and gifted it in 1740 to his chamberlain Michael Gabriel Fredersdorff (1708–58). He expanded the estate, with the manor house being built in 1746 according to plans from Knobelsdorff's architectural office. In 1747, a mulberry plantation was established, and in 1751, among other avenues, the Mulberry Avenue (now a protected monument) was created.

In 1750, Fredersdorff married the banker's heiress Caroline Maria Elisabeth Daum (1730–1810). After Fredersdorff's death († 1758), she married Johann Freiherr von Labes (1731–1776) in 1760. Their children were Amalie Karoline von Labes (1761–1781) and Hans von Labes (1763–1831), the later builder of Burg Schlitz. Amalie Karoline von Labes married Joachim Erdmann Freiherr von Arnim (1741–1804) in 1777; their children were Carl Otto, called Pit von Arnim (1779–1861), and the later romantic poet Ludwig Achim (1781–1831), married to Bettina von Arnim (* April 4, 1785 in Frankfurt am Main; † January 20, 1859 in Berlin).

The last lord of Zernikow until 1945 was Friedmund Freiherr von Arnim (* 1898–1946) and his wife Clara Freifrau von Arnim, née von Hagens (* 1909-2009).

• Zernikow Estate: The Knight's Festival takes place there; exhibitions and readings are held in the inspector's house.
• Manor house in Zernikow, where Achim von Arnim often spent his holidays as a child. A museum in the house provides information about the romantic poet.
• Fredersdorff's family burial site, which was donated in 1777 by Carolina Maria Elisabeth von Labes, widowed Fredersdorff, née Daum (restored until 1999). Until after World War II, it contained the sarcophagi of Michael Gabriel Fredersdorff (* June 6, 1708; † January 14, 1758), Carolina Maria Elisabeth von Labes (* July 27, 1730; † March 10, 1810), Amalia Carolina von Arnim née von Labes (* May 13, 1761; † February 14, 1781), Hans Reichsfreiherr von Labes (* January 6, 1731; † July 27, 1776) and Freiherr Carl Otto Ludwig von Arnim (* August 1, 1779; † February 9, 1861)
