Wulkow Castle

Wulkow's first documented mention is known from 1361. The place name is of Slavic origin and means Wolf. The von Schapelow family was the feudal lord from 1361 to 1646. From 1608, a manor house is documented in the village. Through his marriage to Margarete Tugendreich von Schapelow, Georg von Derfflinger became the owner of Wulkow from 1646. Since Georg von Derfflinger's last son died childless, Wulkow and Hermersdorf came into the possession of Rittmeister Georg Friedrich von Ziethen.

In 1792, Albrecht Wilhelm von Pannewitz, district administrator of the Nieder-Barnim district and canon of Halberstadt, bought the three manor houses Wulkow, Hermersdorf, and Trebnitz for 109,000 Thalers. In 1825, von Pannewitz died childless.

Through the marriage of Wilhelmine von Pannewitz to Field Marshal Wilhelm Magnus von Brünneck, the manor houses Wulkow, Trebnitz, and Hermersdorf came into the possession of the von Brünneck family after her death. In 1945, the last owner, Dr. Wilhelm von Brünneck, was dispossessed and expelled by the communists.

During the GDR era, the house was used for various purposes. Wulkow Castle was a hospital, a refugee home, and a training center. The Heselhaus family from Münsterland in Westphalia acquired the castle from the Treuhandanstalt in August 1992 and extensively renovated it. In 1994, the Parkhotel Schloss Wulkow was opened.
