Wommen Castle

Nursing home

Today's Wommen Castle was built in 1911 on the foundations of the former moated castle. This and the associated estate came into the possession of the wealthy chamberlain Rudolf von Schutzbar-Milchling in 1908. The renowned castle researcher and architect Bodo Ebhardt, who was also active in nearby Eisenach and at Creuzburg Castle at the same time, was entrusted with the reconstruction. The last owner, Baroness Margot von Schutzbar-Milchling, transferred her property to the German Community Diakonie Association in Marburg in an endowment contract dated June 24, 1946. Wommen Castle now serves as a retirement home in accordance with the foundation's purpose.
