Wolsfeld Castle

Wolsfeld Castle is an early modern manor house in the municipality of Wolsfeld in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The originally late medieval, stately house was rebuilt in 1605 for the Lords Diedrich von Enschringen and Ernst Cob von Nüdingen. The imperial Generalfeldwachtmeister Albert Franz Freiherr von Pallandt acquired the lordship of Wolsfeld in 1688 and converted the house into a baroque nine-axis castle building. In 1799, Victoria von Saintignon, the widow of the last Pallandt von Wolsfeld, bequeathed the property to her family, the Counts of Saintignon. In 1906, a tower with a bell roof was added on the garden side. In 1916, the Wolsfeld line of the Saintignon died out and the castle and its interior were auctioned off. A residential wing with a tower-like octagonal building was erected around 1950 in place of a stable built around 1900. The four eastern window axes were destroyed by a bomb in World War II and replaced in 1974 with an adapted single-story wing. The building has been undergoing renovation since 2007.

On the upper floor, two representative fireplaces with coats of arms and trophies from the late 17th century have been preserved; a third fireplace was lost in 1945.

In the courtyard stands a Roman column from Meckel.
