Wiser Castle
Wiser Castle is located in Hirschberg an der Bergstraße in Baden-Württemberg in the Rhein-Neckar district.
In 1704, Count Ferdinand Andreas von Wiser zu Leutershausen acquired the Bettendorff estate, which was destroyed in 1688, and on the grounds of this noble court, Wiser Castle was built in 1710 by the Vorarlberg master builder Johann Jakob Rischer. The facade presents itself in a southern, then Upper Italian style, a transition from Renaissance to Baroque.
In 1737, the Counts erected a Loreto Chapel in the castle courtyard with the miraculous image of the "Black Madonna of Leutershausen," which was transferred in 1907 to the newly built parish and pilgrimage church of St. Johannes Baptist (Leutershausen). Within the high castle walls is the castle garden with sculptures.
Current Use+
The castle is privately owned by the Counts of Wiser and is inhabited. The castle and castle garden are not open to visitors. Annually on the Feast of the Assumption, in mid-August, a pilgrimage with a lantern procession takes place through the castle garden, concluding in the castle courtyard in front of the chapel.
