Winnental Castle

Winnenthal Castle in Winnenden, built around 1300 by the Teutonic Order, was sold to the Dukes of Württemberg in 1665. The castle was rebuilt by the Baroque master builder Matthias Weiss; a stucco ceiling in the prayer room and the monumental fountain in the castle courtyard are still preserved from this period.

Since 1834, it has been a sanatorium, today a specialist hospital for psychiatry and neurology. Worth seeing is the former castle church, which with its late Gothic high altar retable possesses a cultural monument of high rank.

The castle park on the grounds was laid out in its basic structures after its foundation in 1834. The trees in the center of the park are therefore around 150 years old. Visitors to the park stroll past the pond system, the baroque monumental fountain from 1671, the Pug Monument (1717), enjoy the peace and quiet and are yet in the middle of the city of Winnenden. The facility is open to patients and visitors all year round.
