Windigsteig Castle

Early History and Construction

The earliest records indicate the presence of a fortified structure on this site as far back as the 10th century. Originally a defensive tower, it gradually expanded into a more substantial complex, reflecting the growing power and influence of its early lords.

Renaissance and Baroque Transformations

The 16th and 17th centuries brought about significant transformations. The medieval fortress was largely remodeled into a grand residential palace, incorporating the prevailing Renaissance and Baroque styles. Already in 1563, renovations took place at the castle. Owners were Kraft von Helmsau and Josef Munggenast.
