Wildprechtroda Castle

The town of Wildprechtroda with its lowland castle, on the site of today's castle, first came into the possession of the Dynasts of Frankenstein. In the Frankenstein deed of sale, Wildprechtroda is recorded in 1330, and Sittich and Wilhelm Marschalk are mentioned as the next feudal lords. They built a fortified house there - the Rudolphshof. From 1432, the Lords of Buttlar also received a share of Wildprechtroda. Their first castle seat was the Alte Schloss - probably the Frankenstein moated castle. The current castle was built in the 16th century in Renaissance style and was the seat of the Buttlar-Wildprechtoda sideline, which later also included the property in the neighboring village of Leimbach, five kilometers away.

It consists of three buildings grouped around a tiny light well and was once surrounded by a protective moat. The castle was expropriated by the communists in 1945 and is now back in the family ownership of the Buttlars. It is being restored as far as possible.
