Wildenroth Castle
Wildenroth Castle is a small medieval castle in the Upper Franconian town of Burgkunstadt. It is located at the northern end of the Wildenroth district and is currently privately owned. The castle is in great need of renovation and is surrounded by numerous wild-growing trees.
Wildenroth Castle and the associated village were first mentioned on April 8, 1436, in a feudal grant from Heinz von Redwitz to a subordinate vassal.
In 1897, Wildenroth Castle became the ancestral seat of a line of the von Redwitz family, who had previously lived in Veste Oberndorf near Oberndorf.
In 1877, the castle estate was sold by the von Redwitz family to the estate manager Ernst Redwitz from Obersiemau.
Today, the castle houses a horse breeding operation, the Welsh Pony Stud Frankenhöhe, and an antique trade marketed as Antiquity Castle Wildenroth.
