Wiesenfelden Castle
Wiesenfelden Castle is located in Wiesenfelden in the Lower Bavarian district of Straubing-Bogen. The first documented mention of Wiesenfelden dates back to 1105. The castle was the seat of several noble families and formed a closed Hofmark. Owners were the Haibeck from about 1346 to 1488, the Lords of Paulsdorf from 1488 to 1548, the Nothafft family, and finally the Barons of Mägerl and the Counts of Otting and Fünfstätten.
The castle is currently owned by Hubert Weinzierl, president of the German Nature Conservation Ring and former chairman of the Bund Naturschutz in Bayern e.V., and houses an environmental information center and museum. Following disputes between Weinzierl and his successor as chairman of the Bund Naturschutz, Hubert Weiger, it is now operated privately by Weinzierl and no longer by the educational institution of the Bund Naturschutz.
