Wiepersdorf Castle

Initially, a manor house belonging to the von Leipzig family stood on the site of the current castle. In 1734, the Prussian Major Gottfried Emanuel von Einsiedel acquired the Wiepersdorf estate and expanded the manor house, adding two side houses in 1736. After his death in 1745, the property later passed to Joachim Erdmann von Arnim, who bought the Bärwalde region in 1780. He had the manor house redesigned and connected to the side wings by tower buildings, creating a curved architectural ensemble. His son, the poet Ludwig Achim von Arnim, moved to Wiepersdorf with his wife Bettina Brentano in 1814. Achim von Arnim relocated the farmstead and remained in Wiepersdorf throughout his life, while Bettina later returned to Berlin. After Achim's death in 1831, his grandson, the painter Achim von Arnim-Bärwalde, took over the estate and made further extensive changes to the house and garden, including the construction of his studio and the design of the park with an orangery and sculptures. The castle remained in the possession of the von Arnim family until 1945. After World War II, it became a working and recreational facility for artists and writers in the GDR and is now an artists' residence preserved by the German Foundation for Monument Protection.

Wiepersdorf Castle is located in the municipality of Wiepersdorf in the Teltow-Fläming district, Brandenburg, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 91 meters above sea level.

Today, Wiepersdorf Castle houses a museum that commemorates the von Arnim poet couple and documents the history of the house. It serves as an artists' residence, granting scholarships to national and international artists of all disciplines and offering public events such as readings, concerts, and exhibitions.
