History of the Castle+

The origin of the castle lies in an old fortress, which in the 13th century was owned by Count Mangold von Nellenburg. In 1277, the castle is mentioned as "castrum Wichse" in the possession of the Bishop of Bamberg. Ownership changed in 1342 to the Truchsessen von Dießenhofen and in 1397 to the Steißlinger Vogt Burkhart Swainer. In 1499, the castle was destroyed in the Swiss War. In 1501, ownership changed to Wolf von Homburg. In 1556, the castle was expanded. In 1652, the castle burned down. In 1662, the current castle was built on the walls of the old fortress. In 1791, ownership changed to the Barons von Stotzingen.
