Apartments

Werthenau Castle, named after the Villach castle official Michael Pfleger von Werthenau, is located in the Völkendorf district of Villach.

The noble residence was probably built in 1625 and, among other things, rebuilt in the middle of the 18th century. The castle, which has been owned by the Millesi family since the 18th century, now houses private apartments.

Castle Building+

The medium-sized, three-story, cubic building with an unadorned facade has two corner oriel turrets with onion domes on the narrow south side. The entrance hall and the ground floor rooms have cross-rib vaults. Parts of the original furnishings are preserved in the former hunter's room on the upper floor.

Castle Chapel+

The freestanding, small castle chapel stands west of the farm buildings. It is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and was built either in 1625 or 1741. The chapel, with a trefoil-shaped facade gable and a flat ceiling inside, has a recessed choir with a straight end. Above the entrance is a coat of arms dated 1741. To its left is the tombstone of Mathias Johan Edler von Millesi from 1801.

The altarpiece depicting the Immaculata was painted in 1741 by Josef Ferdinand Fromiller.
