Welzenegg Castle

Welzenegg Castle is a large, three-story Renaissance building. The uppermost floor is a dwarf story. At the four corners are projecting towers with low pyramid roofs and ox-eye windows. The windows of the upper floor date from the time of construction; among them are also twin and triple windows with wrought-iron grilles. On the south side is a six-axis addition from 1919, which has round terraces resting on coupled columns and is connected to the old building.

The entrance portal in the west is round-arched and bears a marble inscription tablet with the double coat of arms of the builder and his wife. The entrance hall is wide and has a barrel vault with lunettes. The arcaded courtyard is square; on the upper floor, the number of arcades is doubled compared to the ground floor. In the spandrels of the arches, there is sgraffito decoration in circular medallions.

The interiors were richly decorated, partly with stucco, which is largely lost. The Baroque stucco of the former chapel was created at the end of the 17th century by Gabriel Wittini, and the stucco in the large hall around 1725 by Killian Pittner. Four rooms had wooden ceilings, of which only a coffered ceiling from 1672 has been preserved. In the chapel, the stucco with Jesus and Mary monograms, angel heads, and fruit bundles is preserved.
