Weiningen Castle

The castle was the residence and seat of the manorial lord for the Meyer von Kronau family. The manorial lordship originated in the 12th century between the Barons of Regensberg and Einsiedeln Abbey on the occasion of the founding of Fahr Abbey. From 1435 to 1798, the manorial lordship was owned by the prominent Zurich family Meyer von Kronau, who also had the castle built. The older parts of the building date from the 16th century. Major renovations and extensions took place in the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1840, the municipality, as the new owner, had the former noble castle converted into a schoolhouse. Extensive renovation work was carried out from 1982-1984.
