Weihersberg Castle

The first documented references to the castle date back to the late Middle Ages, to the year 1468. Over the centuries, it has gone through a turbulent time and has been in the possession of the baronial family von Hirschberg since 1669, with the exception of a brief interruption from 1961 to 1996. The current owner, Lutz Freiherr von Hirschberg, was able to return the castle to Hirschberg ownership in 1996 through repurchase. Lutz Frhr. v. Hirschberg resides in the castle with his wife, Simone Frfr. v. Hirschberg, née Merten.

Schloss Hirschberg presents itself as an impressive example of Renaissance architecture, although elements from earlier construction periods are still recognizable. The main building, a stately four-winged complex, encloses a picturesque inner courtyard. The facades are characterized by ornate gables, bay windows, and decorative elements that testify to the artistic demands of their time. Particularly noteworthy is the castle chapel, which houses valuable frescoes and an altar from the Baroque period.

Surrounding the castle is an extensive park that invites you to stroll and linger. Originally laid out as a Baroque garden, it was transformed into an English landscape garden in the 19th century. Old trees, winding paths, and charming vistas characterize the park's appearance. A small pond and various sculptures complete the idyllic picture. The park is not only a place of relaxation but also an important habitat for numerous animal and plant species.
