Weiher Castle

Die Anfänge

In 1399, Kunz Rüssenbach was enfeoffed with the small estate. In 1449, the brothers Hans, Konz, and Michael Lochner held the seat in Weiher, inherited from their father, as a Bamberg episcopal fief. In 1506, Pankraz Lochner received the property as a fief from Bishop Georg of Bamberg. In 1525, the castle was among the castles destroyed during the Peasants' War. In 1691, Heinrich Christoph von Aufseß's ruinous stone house was a fief of the Bishop in Bamberg. In 1729, the current Baroque castle Weiher was built. In 1801, the village and castle were owned by the von Aufseß family, the territory and jurisdiction belonged to the Prince-Bishopric of Bamberg, and the tithe was held by the Collegiate Church of St. Gangolf in Bamberg. In 1872, Hans von Aufseß sold the castle to the Counts of Giech. In 1940, Baron Hiller von Gaertringen inherited the castle.
