Wardow Castle

Wardow Castle was built in the Tudor Gothic style in 1840. For several centuries, the noble family von Lehsten owned the estate, which covered over 1100 hectares. In 1728, Count Heinrich von Bassewitz acquired the estate. Furthermore, the chamberlain von Heiden-Linden and Johann Mierendorf are also mentioned as owners. Amanda von Ammon and Hedwig Groth, Mierendorf's daughters, inherited the estate and managed it until its settlement in 1934. After 1945, refugees were housed in the building. Later, it was a sanatorium for lung diseases, and a school also started operations here. After a private investor was found in 2002, school operations ceased, and the entire complex was privatized. The subsequent renovation work stalled, and in 2008, the castle was sold again. The new owners are currently renovating the castle with a high degree of personal effort to use it as a private residence and to establish a small country hotel with gastronomy.
