Vinsebeck Castle
Vinsebeck Castle is a moated castle in the Vinsebeck district of Steinheim, North Rhine-Westphalia. It was built in 1720 in the Baroque style on a square island on the Emmer river. The former summer residence of the Paderborn cathedral canons is privately owned and can be visited from inside and out.
In 1720, Drost Johann Friedrich Ignaz had it built with his three brothers Ferdinand Ernst Adam, Adolph Franz Friedrich and Mauritz Lothar von der Lippe - all of them cathedral canons in Paderborn. The castle served as the summer residence of the Paderborn cathedral canons. The architect was Justus Wehmer.
In 1767, with Moritz Anton Freiherr von der Lippe, the male Vinsebeck lineage of the von der Lippe family died out, so that the castle passed to his sister Theresia, married to Hermann Werner von der Asseburg zu Hinnenburg. Theresia bequeathed the castle and the other estates to her daughter Antonette, who was married to Johann Ignatz Graf Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht.
Around 1795, the Wintrup line sued the Counts of Wolff-Metternich for the lordship of Vinsebeck. The plaintiff challenged a family contract from 1767, which indirectly bequeathed the castle to the Counts of Wolff-Metternich. The unsuccessful lawsuit dragged on for over 40 years. The castle is now therefore the property of Simeon Graf Wolff Metternich.

The Baroque moated castle Vinsebeck stands on a square island, which is surrounded by a 17 m wide, water-filled moat. The terraced area in front of the main facade is reached via a side bridge. The garden surrounding the castle with its Neptune fountain and stone figures is only partially preserved in its Baroque forms.
The interior design of the Italian Room, the Driburg Room, the Green Room, the Moorish Room and the Chinese Room is largely preserved from the time of construction. The stucco work and full-surface painted linen wallpapers in the rooms are worth seeing.
Trivia+
The castle served as a backdrop during the filming of Der tolle Bomberg. Vinsebeck Castle was also the setting in 1973 for Peter Beauvais' film Griseldis based on the novel by Hedwig Courths-Mahler.
