Unterlind Castle

The origins of Romrod Castle date back to the 11th century. What began as a simple water castle evolved over the centuries into a magnificent residence. The first documented mention dates back to 1160, when a "Conradus de Romrode" was named as the owner. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands multiple times, serving various noble families as a seat of power and prestige.

The castle complex consists of several buildings from different eras, reflecting the architectural styles of their respective times. The oldest parts, such as the keep, date back to the Romanesque period. Gothic elements can be found in the chapel and parts of the residential buildings. During the Renaissance, the castle was extensively renovated and expanded, giving it its present-day appearance. The Baroque period also left its mark, particularly in the interior design of some rooms.

The "New Building" from 1710

In 1710, the von Erffa family had the simple, two-story building with a hip roof constructed. Today, the castle serves as a retirement home.

After extensive renovation work in the late 20th century, Schloss Romrod has been transformed into a modern conference and event center. The historic walls now house seminar rooms, a hotel, and a restaurant. The castle park, designed in the English style, invites visitors to stroll and relax. Regular cultural events, such as concerts, exhibitions, and theater performances, make Schloss Romrod a vibrant center of regional cultural life.
