Ulmerfeld Castle

Ulmerfeld Castle is a castle in Ulmerfeld near Amstetten in Lower Austria.

On August 15, 995, Ulmerfeld was first mentioned in an exchange document by Bishop Gottschalk of Passau. The document refers to the transfer of Ulmerfeld by King Otto III to the Bishop of Freising. In 1189, the Prince-Bishopric of Freising acquired the right of the so-called "Burgwerk" (castle work) for all its possessions from Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. In 1321, the castle was expanded into an administrative center and seat of the Freising administrator. In 1803, Freising's rule ended with secularization. Between 1808 and 1823, the castle was under state administration and subsequently changed owners frequently. In 1930, the castle became the property of Neusiedler AG and was acquired in 1975 by the municipality of Amstetten for a purchase price of 80,000 Schilling. Today it serves as a rehearsal room for the music association and as a youth hostel, and also houses municipal apartments. The tower contains the Historical Weapon Collection of Ernst Urschitz (* January 12, 1925 - † January 7, 2003).
