Uettingen Castle
Uettingen Castle is located on the southern edge of the municipality of Uettingen, directly next to the Aalbach.
Uettingen formerly belonged to the possession of the Holzkirchen Monastery. In 1327, it passed to Rudolf von Westheim, then in 1556 to Friedrich von Ratzenburg, and in 1593 to the Landschad von Steinbach family. Since 1625, it has belonged to the so-called Wolffskeel villages. It was therefore consistent that the village lords wanted to establish a family seat nearby. Uettingen Castle was built in the late Classicist style according to the plans of district architect Morelli in 1818. The commission for this was given by Franz Freiherr Wolffskeel von Reichenberg. In 1920, the manor house was extended by an annex.
Buildings+
The rectangular manor house with an attached low, two-story side wing has an Italian feel and was built on oak piles driven into the ground. The windows and French doors on the ground floor are spanned by round arches, while those on the upper floors have straight lintels. In front of the castle is the associated estate. Behind the castle, beyond a wide arched passage of the side wing, lies a large English landscape park. It once contained an earlier castle complex. However, this had to be demolished in 1866 due to dilapidation.
Current Use+
Uettingen Castle initially served only as a summer residence, before Freiherr Friedrich Wolffskeel von Reichenberg decided in 1850 to inhabit the building permanently. His direct descendant, Luitpold Graf Wolffskeel von Reichenberg, and his family have been living in the castle for the 6th generation. The castle, which remains in private ownership to this day, cannot be visited.
