Tyresö Palace

The origins of the Tyresö estate date back a long time, with the first documented owner being the Privy Councillor Erengisle Nilsson. Over the centuries, the property changed hands among various noble families, including the Blå, Lilje, and Ryning lineages. In 1624, Barbro Oxenstierna transferred the estate to her son, the Lord High Steward Gabriel Gustafsson Oxenstierna, who is considered the builder of the current castle. Renovation work, which integrated older parts of the building from the 14th or 15th century, began around 1620 and was completed in 1633. Between 1638 and 1640, a church was built near the castle. Later industrial endeavors by Oxenstierna's stepdaughter failed. After 1892, the castle underwent extensive redesign under Landgrave Claes Lagergren, who added, among other things, a new portal, an external staircase, and rich interior furnishings. Lagergren stipulated in his will that the castle should be preserved as a historical document of the turn of the century, and it has been part of the Nordic Museum's collection since 1930.

Tyresö Castle is located in the municipality of Tyresö, in the Stockholm district, Sweden, at an elevation of approximately 17 meters above sea level.

Today, Tyresö Castle houses a restaurant and serves as a conference center. It is a protected monument and is accessible to visitors.
