Tunzenberg Castle

In 1165, Leonhard von Tunzenberg is first mentioned at a tournament in Zurich with Berchtold von Austria. This manor was named after its possession, the "Tunzenberg". The Tunzen are mentioned until the 15th century.

Rohrbeck zu Tunzenberg appears in 1451. He sells Tunzenberg in 1480 to Martin Haunberger. His son Paulus bequeaths Tunzenberg to his wife, a born Sandizellerin. She "resides" until 1503 and procures the property for her cousin Sigmundt Sandizell zu Odelzhausen. After that follows Ortloff von Sandizell.
From 1618, the Romung appear. After the death of the last Romung, Tunzenberg was inherited by Johann von Ulmb und Erbach, but he sold it to his cousin Schleich. Anna Antonia, a daughter of Hans Wolf Schleich, married Franz Maximilian Freiherr von Scharpffed in 1719. This marriage remained childless, and so the estate came into the hands of Maria Barbara, widowed Freiin zu Lerchenfeld, born Countess von und zu Seyboldsdorf. She died on June 5, 1791. The heir was her son Herrmann Joseph Nepumuk, then his son Franz Xaver.

After the death of the latter, Julius von Niethammer acquired the Tunzenberg castle estate on May 27, 1832. After various successions, in 1911 Paula von Niethammer received Tunzenberg, who married Lieutenant Eugen von Haniel. He respectfully also adopted the name Niethammer. In 1942, the estate was taken over by Dr. Fritz von Haniel-Niethammer and in 1958 by his son Dr. Ruprecht von Haniel-Niethammer. The latter sold the entire property in 1990 first to Platon AG in Zurich and then to Bautax AG in Zug/Switzerland. In the following years, this company fragmented the entire property, after which the castle was acquired by Alfons Aigner in 1996.
