Tjolöholm Castle
On Sweden's west coast, directly on the Kungsbackafjord, stands Tjolöholm Castle. This impressive structure, reflecting the Tudor style of the late 19th century, is an outstanding example of the architecture of its time and offers visitors an insight into the history and way of life of that era.
History+
The origins of Tjolöholm date back a long way; as early as 1231, the site, then known as Thiulfö, was first mentioned and was owned by the Danish King Waldemar II. In 1659, the estate changed hands and was acquired by the Swedish Field Marshal Carl Mauritz Lewenhaupt. Over the centuries, further sales followed until it came into the possession of Master of the Horse J. F. Dickson in 1892. It was he who had the old building demolished and, between 1898 and 1904, had the current Tjolöholm Castle built in the Tudor style according to designs by architect Lars Israel Wahlman.

Tjolöholm Castle is located in the village of Torpa, which belongs to the Kungsbacka district in the Halland region of Sweden. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 8 meters above sea level, directly on the shore of the Kungsbackafjord.
